What is No Kidding!?

No Kidding! is a non-profit social/support club dedicated to enriching the lives of non-parents (couples and singles who do not have children). No Kidding! offers a host of fun social activities that let you know you aren't alone. Additionally, the club helps find solutions to your unique problems by allowing you to communicate with others who share your lifestyle. Bottom line: No Kidding! gives childfree adults a sense of belonging in a society that often alienates them because they don't conform to the majority. And the best part--you don't need a babysitter to participate!

If you haven't yet made the decision whether or not to have children, you can learn more about the option to remain childfree.

Who can join the group?

Membership is open to any adult who has never parented a child -- regardless of gender, age, color, race, ethnicity, cultural or linguistic background, marital, social or economic status, political, sexual or religious orientation or physical or mental ability.

Non-custodial parents, step-parents, and empty-nesters are not eligible to join No Kidding!.

If someone who has never had children has a partner who has children (of any age), the non-parent can join No Kidding!, while their partner (the one with kids) can come as their guest. The partner with children may not attend without the member.

Group members may range from those who dislike or are uncomfortable with children, to those who genuinely love children.

What is the age range of NK members?

Our ages range from mid-late 20's to mid-late 50's, though most of us are in our 30's. Take a look at some of the pictures from past events. You will see that age really doesn't matter to us since we all have so much in common and have so much fun together!

What is the group's couples to singles ratio?

Right now we have about a 60-40 split of couples to singles, but it seems the number of singles is growing more all the time. That ratio does change a bit depending on the type of event including occasional 'singles only' events.

Background

Founded in December, 1998, the Raleigh chapter of No Kidding! held its first meeting with just four members. After a few short months, nine people attended the second event. With monthly dinners scheduled at local restaurants, interest in the group grew exponentially. Today, the chapter includes a diverse collection of adults, both single and married, from all walks of life and with a healthy mix of professions.

Due to the Internet and a lot of press coverage, the topic of being childfree is increasingly getting more attention. This has helped to heighten the interest in No Kidding! and has directly increased the number of chapters.

Events

No Kidding! Raleigh strives to schedule at least one event each month, spreading the events over the different cities of the Triangle and beyond.

Any member can schedule an event simply by posting a note to the group and organizing the outing. For more information about planning an event please read the Event Planning Resource page.

How to join

At this time there is no membership fee, but that could change if more expenses come up. But for now, just show up at an event, and you become an instant member. It is that simple.
